Imagine your computer network as a big office building, and every room (segment) in the building represents different parts of the network. Normally, if someone successfully gets into the building, they might be able to wander around and enter any room they like.

"Microsegmentation" is like giving each room in the office building a special access card. Even if someone gets into the building, they can't just enter any room they want without the right access card. It adds an extra layer of security by dividing the network into smaller segments and only allowing specific communications or access between them.
